Near the start of the trail in the village great views of Maungatautari can be seen to the northwest across the river. This is one of the many ancient volcanic cones in the region.

This dam and powerhouse were commissioned in 1929. The powerhouse and swing-bridge have an historic classification.

The Trail descends from the road to the Swingbridge entrance. Turn left to follow the gorge upstream where the river originally flowed. Take care to stay back from the edge as there are steep bluffs along here. The trail runs through farmland under shady pines then into native bush. Crossing a bubbling stream it emerges near the dam.

LENGTH: 2 km
APPROXIMATE TIME: 45 mins walk one way
ACCESS: From the Swingbridge access in the Village or Arapuni Road at the dam.
HIGHLIGHTS: Historic Arapuni swing bridge and powerhouse dating back to 1920's. Follow old river gorge up to Arapuni Dam.
