There is a car park at the entrance to this trail near the dam.

The first trail on the lake takes in the special tranquillity of stilled water reflecting all around it. Marvel at the much photographed pink hues in the rocky ignimbrite bluffs from ancient volcanic times.

Further on as the track climbs beware of steep cliffs - stay clear of the edge. Much of this trail is under the shade of kanuka. Climb higher and the choice is yours - go directly on to Jones Landing or head for the top. Ten minutes away are the most fantastic views of Lake Arapuni, Jones Landing and way beyond to the horizon. It's like being on top of the world. Upon descent watch for a sometimes slippery, zigzag track towards lake level. Take time to look at the time-carved towering ignimbrite columns and fractured outcrops that are special to Jones Landing. Toilets are available at the waterside picnic area close by.

LENGTH: 3 km
APPROXIMATE TIME: 1hr 45mins walk one way
ACCESS: From Arapuni Rd at the dam or Lake Arapuni Rd to Jones Landing.
HIGHLIGHTS: Interesting pink ignimbrite rock formations, small islets. Lookout high above Jones Landing gives an expansive bird's eye view across Lake Arapuni to the skyline.
